Guided tour of the Mauern Caves
Let yourself be carried away into the prehistoric history of the Urdonau valley, learn a lot of interesting facts about its formation, as well as the Mauern caves, the archaeological finds there and gain insights into the history and settlement of the area, starting with the Stone Age people, the Neanderthals, the Celts and the Romans.
The guide will talk about the scientific excavations, the prehistoric finds and the flora and fauna.
The excursion ends with a visit to the pilgrimage and Marian church “Mariä Himmelfahrt” in Mauern with its valuable art and votive treasures, the miraculous cross and the beautiful frescoes.
Please note: some steeper passages, sturdy shoes!

A hike or bike tour from Bergen to the Mauern Caves via the Jakobsweg is highly recommended (7.5 km).
